Launched at the end of 2019 by tweets and a few online articles, QwantURank is a web referencing competition launched in France by the European search engine Qwant.

The principle ? Few ads have filtered before the date, but everything is simple! To win, it is "enough" to position your site (wordpress blog or other, as long as it has at least one internet page) in first place in the search engine on the "Qwanturank" request at the end of the contest.

Aimed mainly at members of the active SEO community (more than at companies or SEO agencies), this operation at first sight of online communication hides other objectives for the European engine.

Launched on December 2, 2019, the “Qwanturank” competition aims to test “the robustness of anti-spam methods” of Qwant, the French search engine.

For the first several days, the wiki disappeared following a competing strategy of duplicate content (from the cloud point).

Back in good graces from Qwant on 12/23, we continue our efforts to bring you the most beautiful quotes from Qwanturank.

Qwanturank is an opportunity to learn more about the Qwant engine Protection of privacy: A strong concept also present in the Qwanturank competition Qwant defines its field of services and activities as that of a search engine that indexes a web page while protecting the privacy of users.

The French engine, which relies heavily on its QwantURank competition to pass a level, operates in 28 languages in 42 countries, does not use third-party cookies, trackers, behavioral targeting or native advertising and provides advice and articles information to maintain anonymity on websites.

Its business model is based on general advertising, the same business model as that used by Google during its initial launch.

Launched mainly in France, Qwant is expanding its catalog of web services and is increasingly evolving towards a portal model, like Google, adding a host of new services: messaging (Qwant Mail), maps (Qwant Maps), SEO competition (QwantURank ) and sports (Qwant Sports).

It already has a specialized search engine for music and an engine specially designed for children, which filters content.

Qwanturank is the new SEO contest taking place from December 2, 2019 to June 2020.

For me, SEO contests are a welcome opportunity for SEO experimentation because most contests are held on entirely new search terms.

It is therefore very interesting to see which pages the Qwant search engine ranks when no historical data is available on this artificially created term.

The search engine should only rely on signals that generally don't have much impact on the ranking.

Sure, as in any SEO contest, there will be a lot of low value spam or long term ranking potential, but we can observe, what is the ranking, how long and maybe even why! When search engines like Qwanturank detect an increase in search volume for a specific term, they must assume that something new has happened and that users are looking for the latest news or information on that particular topic.

For popular seasonal terms like ‘superbowl‘, the measures are the same as for newly created terms or increasing search volume like ‘Qwanturank‘ because everyone wants to know which sites are currently ranked the highest.

Each time such an event occurs, an algorithm comes into play, which means that the request deserves to be refreshed: the pages or articles updated or new are better classified, because they provide more recent information to the 'user.

QwantURank, Qwant Med, Qwant Pay…: The engine is looking for a second wind As part of its efforts to attract more professional customers, the company is launching Qwant Med, intended for hospitals, doctors and researchers handling confidential medical records, and another service called Qwant Pay which aims to introduce a European electronic wallet which would not only allow banks to protect their customers' information but would also serve as an alternative to the electronic wallets developed by Google, Apple, Visa and Mastercard.

Qwant said it has seen the number of visitors drop from 48 million to 70 million in the five months that have passed since Cambridge Analytica was charged with using inappropriately obtained data on Facebook to establish voter profiles and influencing elections in the United States.
